Lesson 5: Prescribed fire
Fire has always been a part of our daily life, through stories, traditions, events, practices, religion and several art forms.

Prescribed fire
Prescribed fire practice is another technique that is included in cold fire and it is a technique that needs a lot of planning and preparation.
If burning can have benefits, it can also have very negative effects, so we must burn with knowledge so that temperatures do not affect the soil too much, or roots, plants, microorganisms, etc. Cold fire has specific goals, and prescribed fire has them as well.
Who can help with prescribed fires?
Both to carry out a prescribed fire or even an extensive burn, we will need help. To be able to do it safely, it shouldn’t be just one or two people, we’re going to need some entities that can help us.
We can count on forest sappers, teams that help and that work mainly in prevention during the autumn, winter and spring and then carry out the first intervention and surveillance during the summer.
We will have, not the National Maritime Authority, but, for example, the Civil Protection, the Prescribed Fire Technician, specialist in this matter of extensive burns and, of course, the Firemen, also specialists mainly in extinguishing fires and who will help us to carry out extensive burns and prescribed fires safely.
